Each year U-Haul International, Inc. releases its National
Migration Trend Report, titled "The
2011 Top 50 U.S. Destination Cities”.
And for the third straight year, Houston has ranked #1.
While the report may
not hold up to statistical scrutiny in regard to economic or population growth,
it does bode well for The Bayou City.
Let’s face it, U-Haul does know a thing or two about the moving habits
of Americans. The rankings are based on
moves greater than 50 miles and takes
into account every city in the country regardless of size.
My experience over the last several years has been that
there is definitely a lot of activity in the Houston real estate market. Especially in the quadrant between Katy and
The Woodlands. Many of the oil companies
are relocating employees to Texas and that has helped our market.
Of the top 10 cities on U-Haul’s list, three are located in
Texas. Our Lone Star state is still
highly regarded as a business friendly state and that draws companies to our great
land. With no state income tax and a
track record of encouraging economic growth, Texas has fared far better than
many areas of the country.
In case you are curious, here is the list of U-Haul’s top 50
cities:
